Liz Bell is an Australian artist, based in Black Rock, Victoria.

Her art is deeply influenced by the natural landscape surrounding her childhood home in Northern Tasmania and the ocean.

She draws on her love of architecture and background in architectural drafting, using hard edge geometric angles to represent light, connections and movement.

In the studio

“My studio space is small but mighty, and I am a serious organisational nerd.”

With young kids around, Liz loves a good lockable cabinet, is learning to accept mess and the occasional scribble on a half finished piece (or wall).

She is often moving furniture around based on the size of the canvas and how she wants to work with it.

“I try to create pieces that evoke a sense of calm and stillness.”

My process

Idea | Design | Fill | Highlights

Liz’s technique involves drafting then filling geometric angles, progressively creating a gradient of depth and movement.

“Painting, and being around creative tools, is my meditation.”

Liz studied the Japanese language as a child and often incorporates origami paper or gold leaf as a reference to Kintsugi (the art of repairing broken pottery).
