Inspired by the rocks along the shoreline of Tea Tree Bay Beach in Noosa, Queensland, this piece uses a mixture of textured modelling paste and acrylic to create a grid of dark slate-grey blocks, set against a neutral off-white / sandy background.
The texture creates ridges that pick up the shadows, and the dark colour of the paint is only partly mixed with the textured paste, so that each individual square is unique, with its own shades, shadows and contrast.
This piece can be hung landscape or portrait, depending on the space and mood.
